Thank you dad for all your help and encouragement over the years especially the early ones. Including when we practiced goal kicking up the Maerdy when my 50m kicks used to take you three kicks to get back to me and that was without the faithful dog Aimee trying to steal the ball!!!. My affinity to numbers were attributed to your teaching me mental arithmetic from an early age. It has paid dividend in me running my own business for the last 30 years. Some people who have only known you in the last 14 years don’t know the real Len. The Len that got up at 530am to take me swimming 3 times a week before work and then take me to Rugby in the nights. I’m sorry for not going on the Welsh rugby camp and I know you kept telling me for years that I missed out on a cap. We were both guilty of being stubborn.
Thankfully I didn’t have to share my dad with any other siblings. I loved weekends with Dyfed Caravan Club. A personal favourite of mine was when the lads pinched your porta toilet tent in the night and place it the furthest end of the field just to see you walking with the paper ready for the morning ritual.
These were very happy family times and I have so many memories of spending quality time with you. Having a father that listened was essential to me becoming the father I am today. My two boys and your only two grandsons are testament to that. I’ve learnt from your mistakes and lessons and promised them that I will always be there for them regardless of circumstances. I am truly glad you had the chance to congratulate Tomos on passing his PHD, the first Doctor in the Morgan family, and you were proud of him and Owain in the way they have grown up. The boys will remember their Grandad in a positive way and it’s a pity they didn’t have more time with you to learn a thing or two around the dartboard.
Cysga dawel dad, ti’n rhydd nawr.
Chris, Rhian, Tomos & Owain
